Latest news and developments for HLISD

The Health Library and Information Services Directory (HLISD) is the primary directory for library and information services in the health sector in the UK and an important channel for library users to discover and engage with these services.

NHS England Workforce, Training and Education Directorate and the CILIP Health Libraries Group are keen to continue to evolve and improve the platform and provide new ways to support the important services provided by health information services.

Recent additions to the directory include:

  • New social media listing fields – you can now add links to your library’s accounts on X/Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn.
  • Virtual library services – new, custom listings for libraries that don’t have a physical branch.
  • A new status page for keeping track of scheduled downtime and other development announcements.

Listings are reviewed regularly to help ensure that the directory is always accurate and up-to-date. If you notice a service that is not included or a listing that is out of date, please let us know.

We also have an open API available. This offers developers a powerful gateway to HLISD’s comprehensive data, including location, service and contact information for health libraries and information services across the United Kingdom.  If you are starting new software development projects, please consider the benefits and potential of this API. Documentation is available and you can register for access to the API (non-commercial use only) at hlisd.org/api_registration.

And if you have any questions or feedback about the directory, please don’t hesitate to get in touch at HLISD@knowledgeforhealthcare.nhs.uk
