HLG Nursing Bulletin: gone but not forgotten

Eight years and 39 issues later

Lynsey HawkerCo-Chair, Health Libraries Group (HLG)

After nearly eight years of publication in its present form, the HLG committee has taken the difficult decision to retire the HLG Nursing Bulletin.

First published online in 2015 the Nursing Bulletin has been one of three HLG publications alongside this newsletter and our academic journal Health Information and Libraries Journal.  Since its inception, it has been an outlet for people new to writing for publication to try their hand and a home for those looking to share and discover new ideas and best practice.

HLG Nursing came into existence when the previous subgroup Libraries for Nursing was subsumed by HLG.  Keen to honour the legacy of this group HLG continued to publish the bulletin (previously LfN) as HLG Nursing and our Nursing Lead has continued to ensure that HLG represents colleagues providing library and knowledge services for nursing, midwifery, and allied health professionals.

However, as the wider health and care landscape changes there seems less of a need for a separate working group focusing just on this group.  Our committee’s current strategy as a special interest group specifies that HLG strives to represent knowledge and information professionals working across health and care. As we move forward, our committee will work together to ensure all our members and potential members are supported and represented in our activities, across our publications, and in the networks we build.

We are very proud of our history and of the work that Libraries for Nursing and more recently HLG Nursing has carried out. Therefore, while we will no longer be publishing HLG Nursing Bulletin in its current form we will continue to run a regular HLG Nursing section within our newsletter.  Like its predecessor, this column encourages those new to writing for publication to submit relevant articles or reviews.  If you would like to submit an article for publication, please send to newsletter@cilip.org.uk

We would like to take this opportunity to thank our outgoing HLG Nursing Lead, Phillip Barlow, for all his hard work and dedication to HLG Nursing.  A special thanks for his great efforts to preserve the legacy of Libraries for Nursing and HLG Nursing in both its incarnations through the digitisation projects.  Thanks to his work you can now access all previous issues of the publication via our HLG Nursing Bulletin Archive
