HLG Nursing Bulletin Vol 31 (3/4)

Welcome to the final edition of the Libraries for Nursing Bulletin for 2011. As usual we have a variety of articles for you.

LfN hosted a successful study day entitled ‘Tried and Tested Technologies’ in November in Sheffield. The aims of the study day were for delegates to explore new tools, interact with those already using the technologies in their workplaces and to leave the event with greater understanding of how apps, blogs and tablet devices can be used successfully in a health library setting. Gillian Siddall’s reflections from the event can be found on page 5. If you have yet to attend one of LfN’s Study Days they offer cost-effective CPD and networking opportunities in an informal setting.

One of the speakers at our Study Day, Andrew Dove, has been heavily involved in a project at the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust to lend iPads to library users. Andrew’s article on this project offers food for thought for anyone considering developing a similar service.

Employability has recently become an increasing concern in universities across the country and Angela Davies and Deborah Taylor’s article provides an example of how librarians can contribute to this agenda. They report on a project undertaken at Sheffield Hallam University which encouraged final year nursing students to see the value of their information seeking skills in their early professional careers.

After several years on the LfN Committee, our chair, Jane Shelley has decided to step down. Jane has been an efficient and enthusiastic chair and will be greatly missed by us all. We are currently looking for a new chair; if anyone wishes to find out more about this position please contact one of the committee.

A subscription renewal form is included with this issue. We hope that you will continue to support the work of LfN in 2012.

Our next Bulletin will be published in the spring and we welcome articles for inclusion; please contact the editors for more information.
